So I basically deleted all of the content from my blog, and left up a good-bye message. Why did I do this? Well, for a lot of reasons.
The first was the biggest: I was simply doing too much, committing to too many projects of my own making, and setting too many deadlines for myself. I had resolved to finish the first SIX months of Terminaburg by the end of this year—my original projection was for the end of November. That’s a lot of words, and, as I began to realize when I finally got started, more than I could reasonably create in such a short span of time. Writing High Empty had left me drained—putting out two solid months of fiction without missing a day is tough! 24000 brand new fiction, along with slight revisions on the manuscript excerpts, definitely exhausted me. Planning, outlining, writing, and then revising between 75-100k words of brand new fiction? Wasn’t going to happen.
Second: I just did not have an audience. All of that content, just getting thrown into a hole, without anyone paying attention. I did not have the strength to try and set up a marketing effort at that point, and to be honest I still don’t. I know it’s necessary, and I’m confident that I can set one up that sees results in the future, but right now simply creating is my main task.
So what does the future hold? Well, I’m still working on every project I’ve shown so far—High Empty is going to get revised, expanded, and re-released in the future. Terminaburg is getting completed, bit by bit. It was conceived as a daily fiction project. That is how I’m going to create it. Non-Fiction/craft/how-to stuff is also coming along. I hit pause on that in a very big way—as someone who’s only been writing for a little over the year, I’m not sure I have the authority to really tell people how to write or be creative.
Overall, my goal for 2018 is to get published. The short story gears are turning in my head as I write this, and I hope to have some stuff ready to submit by the beginning of next year. I’m going to set my passion projects to the side, building them out bit by bit, writing slowly and surely, editing as I go. I want those to be perfect. There’s no point in pouring all of that energy into them if they’re not going to be as good as I can make them.
I’ll consider coming back in 2018, but for now, this will be the only message on the blog for the future. Thanks for reading, and take care.
