Finally watched Justice League this weekend.
Actually wasn’t that bad. Certainly nowhere near as awful as Wonder Woman or GOTG 2. The movie hummed along at a decent pace, not taking time to delve too deeply into its nonsensical story, rather taking the time to focus on interactions between characters. It tries to have a little more fun than in previous DC films.
Which would be a welcome change if it was more tonally consistent. The easily differentiated Snyder and Whedon footage (helped along by the greatest special effect of the year, Henry Cavill’s Creepy CG Lip) show two movies that wanted to be made, but got mashed together because that’s what had to be done. Every actor was fine in their role (Thicc Batman is strange, Ezra Miller was maybe a little too eager, the rest were agreeable), and there was no sterilization subplot! That gets a few points in my book.
Come to think of it, there was no romance at all in this movie. It felt stiff at times because of that, with no added sources of interpersonal tension or conflict.
If you’re not a fan of DC films, this one won’t change your mind. It pretty much exists only to reinforce what you already feel, but it was fun to snipe at for its 110 minute runtime.
